Bullet's comfy spot -my work chair |
We picked up bullet on Sunday afternoon. He's such a sweet guy, a real hug bunny. And yesterday, he had his first vet visit with Crestwood Veterinary Clinic. They ran some tests, gave him some new meds to help with his poor raw skin and paws and he got a lovely scarf to wear. He's pretty proud of it. The total bill came to a whopping $539.35! That's just the start to this poor guy's long road to recovery.
So to help the very dedicated and generous people of Bull Terrier Rescue, Inc., I'm offering the painting pictured above as a silent auction with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Bull Terrier Rescue. Here's how it will work. Just email me with your bid. The person with the highest bid wins the piece. I'm accepting bid offers starting now and ending November 30, 2010. The winning bidder will be notified by email on the December1, 2010 and the painting will be shipped to you once payment is received.
I will also be adding new items from time to time for Bullet & Bull Terrier Rescue, Inc. They will be posted on a seperate page on this blog.

My New Chimp
I just finished this little one for a commission. I did a few things different from my usual chimpanzees. I decided to give her a polymer clay face and hands. She's four way posable and sits at 4 3/4 inches tall. She doesn't have a name, yet. The hardest part was sewing the silly sock monkey. The sock material kept unraveling and turning out those tiny legs & tail was a real pain! But I always like to include a sock monkey with my chimps. I like the duality betwween the toy and the real. That's one of my fascinations with working with wool.

Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel Swish Your Bushy Tail
I just finished this little guy today. He kind of reminds me of the camp song "Gray Squirrel". I used to sing it back when I was a camp counselor for developmentally disabled adults and children. The song was complete with hand motions and tail swishing. It goes like this:
Gray squirrel, Gray Squirrel
Swish your busshy tail.
Gray squirrel, Gray squirrel,
Swish your bushy tail,
Wrinkle up your funny nose,
Put a nut between your toes,
Gray squirrel, gray squirrel,
Swish your bushy tail.
There's a pretty funny website that has videos of people doing the gray squirrel song. It's http://www.scarysquirrel.org/special/movies/gskwerlsong/

Peace Felt!
I was so surpised when I received my package from my Peace Felt partner. It's really a lovely piece with lots of meaning! She also sent along some flower bulbs and angelica root. Angelica root is very special to me because it reminds me of a friend who passed away a few years back. He was a Pomo Miwok elder and angelica root is used in a lot of their ceremonies, especially ones that have to do with the bear. My friend's name was Bun Lucas. He got his name Bun because when he was a little kid he used hop around like a bunny. It kind of stuck. Bun is probably one of the kindest most gentle souls. He was always open to teaching people about his culture and spent a lot of time wildcrafting herbs for baskets and medicines. The bulbs I am sending to a friend of mine who has a very green thumb and who was also very close to Bun. I on the otherhand have a very brown thumb and live in the desert where lots of bugs and animals would find the bulbs to be tastey treats. We both worked on saving a plot of land that Bun and his people needed to gather Dog Bane used for making fishing nets. The area was very sacred to his people.
The pictures below are of the piece hanging from my fence. It's kind of weird. I never thought that I'd like chain link fencing. But the winds are so high here, it keeps my neighbor's patio furniture from blowing into my house!
